Pros: First and fourth ingredients are named meat products.
Cons: Minimum acceptable meat content, liberal use of low quality grains and other controversial filler.

The first ingredient in this food is a named meat product, chicken meal. There is a second meat meal ingredient fourth on the ingredient list, giving us some confidence that there is an an adequate overall meat content to this product.

The grain content of the food is low quality. Corn is a difficult to digest grain, which limits its nutritional value for dogs. We consider this to be a low quality ingredient. It is also commonly associated with allergy and skin problems. We prefer not to see the use of this grain in dog food. Wheat is a further grain very commonly associated with allergy problems that we prefer not to see used, and in this form is filler.

Beet pulp is another low quality ingredient and filler. It is a by-product, being dried residue from sugar beets which has been cleaned and extracted in the process of manufacturing sugar. It is a controversial ingredient in dog food, claimed by some manufacturers to be a good source of fibre, and derided by others as an ingredient added to slow down the transition of rancid animal fats and causing stress to kidney and liver in the process. We note that beet pulp is an ingredient that commonly causes problems for dogs, including allergies and ear infections, and prefer not to see it used in dog food. There are less controversial products around if additional fibre is required.
