Pros: First ingredient is a named meat product.
Cons: Inadequate meat content, use of low quality grains and filler.

The first ingredient in the food is a named meat product in meal form. This is the primary meat ingredient in the food, and does not give us confidence that the food contains an adequate amount of meat for a canine. Much of the protein content of the food is made up from egg product. Eggs, in moderation, are a good source of additional protein for dogs and a natural foodstuff, but this should not make up a high percentage of the diet. Moreover, we would prefer to see the use of whole eggs rather than egg product.

The second ingredient is rice flour. This is a low quality ingredient and grain fragment that does not have the value of whole grains. Potato product is also low quality - being made up of potato peelings and culls rather than whole potato. Rice bran and brewers rice are also low quality grain waste prodcuts. The use of corn is not desirable - corn is a difficult to digest grain that has little nutritional value for a canine, and is commonly associated with allegies and yeast infections.

A further meat product, fish in meal form is the 9th ingredient. This is also too far down the ingredient list to add significantly to the overall meat content. We do not find any information about the presence or otherwise of ethoxyquin in the ingredient (ethoxyquin is a chemical preservative commonly added to fish ingredients and that is banned from human foods due to the belief that it is carcinogenic).

Overall, this appears to be a very grain heavy product which utilizes a high proportion of low quality ingredients. It has been given a 3-star rating, but would be amongst the lower quality products in this class.
