There is a further meat ingredient 13th on the ingredient list. This is too far down to make any substantial contribution to the overall meat content of the food. It is a fish meal ingredient, but we find no guarantee on the manufacturers website that protein sources are ethoxyquin-free (ethoxyquin is a chemical preservative commonly added to fish destined for meal, and is believed to be carcinogenic).
The main grains in the food are rice (2 forms), barley, and millet. These are all decent quality grains, but the food starts to appear very heavy in grains whereas food designed for canines should be based on meat. Potatoes are a further carbohydrate source. We would prefer to see the use of whole eggs rather than egg product in the food.
The food contains a decent range of fruits/vegetables and probiotics. Its low meat content is the main reason it cannot be given a higher rating.
