Pros: First ingredient is a named meat product
Cons: Insufficient meat content, mixed quality ingredients

The first ingredient in this food is a named meat product. This is meat inclusive of water content (around 80%). Once this is removed as it must be to create a dehydrated product, the ingredient will weigh about 20% of its wet weight. As ingredients are listed in weight order, it is thus unlikely that this is truely the first ingredient in the food, but would be more accurately placed further down the ingredient list. There is a further meat ingredient, this time in meal form, sixth on the ingredient list. This is likely the true main meat product in the food. We note the inclusion of fish meal ingredients, but do not find any statement on the manufacturers website guaranteeing the use of ethoxyquin-free ingredients (ethoxyquin is a chemical preservative commonly added to fish ingredients and which is banned or heavily regulated in human food production, due to the belief that it is carcinogenic).

The remaining ingredients appear to be of mixed quality. Rice protein is not a high quality ingredient, bordering filler and although this elevates the overall protein content of the food, it would be preferable if this were done via meat ingredients. Oats, barley (occurs twice) and brown rice are more are more reassuring, however we note that many of the grain products are 'split', without such practice would probably occupy a much higher position on the ingredient list. This product is heavier in grain than first glance at the ingredient list may suggest.

We appreciate the inclusion of whole eggs and a range of fruits/vegetables in the food.
