Pros:
Cons: Some low quality ingredients, products known to be toxic to dogs

A vegetarian product, this is not a natural foodstuff for canines. Although not obligate carnivores, dogs are still carnivores and should consume a diet that is majority based on meat. Grains are not a natural foodstuff for this species. Extremely allergic individuals may require diets excluding meat protein, however, so a review of this product is based on ingredient quality (i.e. excluding the issue of species-appropriate diet).

This food is based almost completely on grains, rather than fruits and vegetables though there is a small amount of vegetable matter in the minor ingredients. It makes it a very grain heavy food. The main grains are rice and barley, both of which are decent quality. Soy flour provides additional protein, but this is low quality protein. Soy is a product we prefer not to see used in dog food products and is linked to many allergy problems in dogs. Canola oil is the primary source of fat. Although a single-source oil, this is not generally considered high quality.

Avocado (meal and oil) is an unusual ingredient in dog food and one that we have some concerns about as avocadoes are toxic to dogs (toxic dose is unknown). We also note the inclusion of onion power with concern as onions are highly toxic to dogs and general veterinary advice is not to feed products containing onion powder to dogs.

Overall, and notwithstanding the complete absence of meat in this product, it does not appear to use high quality ingredients and is rated accordingly.
