The first ingredient in the food is a named meat product, in meal form. The fifth ingredient, blood meal, has no official definition for feedstuffs and is more commonly found in garden fertilizer. The fat content of the food is similarly low quality and unidentifiable by species or source. "Animal" fat could be anything - described by AAFCO as "obtained from the tissues of mammals and/or poultry in the commercial processes of rendering or extracting. It consists predominantly of glyceride esters of fatty acids and contains no additions of free fatty acids". Fish meal is the 6th ingredient, but we find no sign on the manufacturer's website of a guarantee that only ethoxyquin-free protein ingredients are used in this food (ethoxyquin is a chemical preservative, commonly added to fish ingredients, and that is banned or heavily regulated in human food due to the belief that it is carcinogenic).
The grains in the food are primarily low quality. Corn is a difficult to digest grain of limited value in dog food. It is also commonly associated with allergy problems. Rice is a decent quality grain, but bran is a grain fragment we consider primarily filler.
The food has added vitamins and minerals, but no information about these is given and it may contain synthetics. Likewise, the preservative is undisclosed and may be chemical preservatives such as ethoxyquin, BHT and BHA which are allowed in pet products but are banned or heavily regulated in human food due to the belief that they are carcinogenic.
