Pros: First ingredient is a named meat product, uses primarily good quality ingredients
Cons: Insufficient meat content

The first ingredient in this food is a named meat product. This is not a meat meal, being inclusive of water content (about 80%). Once this is removed, as it must be to create a dehydrated product, the ingredient will weigh around 20% of its wet weight. As ingredients are listed in order of weight, it is thus unlikely that this is truely the first ingredient in the food, but would be more accurately placed much further down the ingredient list as a minor ingredient in the food. There are further meat ingredients 8th and 9th on the ingredient list, but this is too far down to make any substantial contribution to the overall meat content of the food.

The second ingredient is whole eggs, which is likely to make a significant contribution toward the protein content of this food, as would pea protein, the third ingredient, which suggests that a significant proportion of the protein content may come from plant sources. Plant protein is still protein but of much lower quality than that from meat. Oats and barley are good quality grains, but amongst the top ingredients, the food begins to appear too light in meat content. Pea flour we consider to be primarily filler. The food contains a range of fruits and vegetables, and a good range of probiotics.

Overall, the food appears to be comprised of primarily good quality ingredients, and we appreciate the inclusion of whole eggs. The overall meat content, however, appears to be low and this is the primary reason a higher rating is not given. Users might consider supplementing this diet with meat.
