Pros: First ingredient is a named meat source.
Cons: Mixed quality ingredients used, some low quality fillers.

The first ingredient in this food is a named meat product. There is a further meat product at 6th on the ingredient list. That is menhaden fish meal, which is the clean, dried, ground tissue of undecomposed whole fish or fish cuttings, either or both, with or without the extraction of part of the oil. This is not a high quality ingredient and it is not sold for human consumption. The manufacturer does not claim to use ethoxyquin-free sources (ethoxyquin is a chemical preservative commonly added to fish destined for meal, and is believed to be carcinogenic).

Barley is the primary grain in the food, followed by oatmeal. Both are decent quality grains, as is brown rice the fifth ingredient. Potato flour (4th) is a filler.

The next ingredient is brewers rice, a low quality grain and by-product. Quinoa and amaranth are good quality grains, as is flaxseed. Menhaden fish oil is a low quality oil, but we appreciate the inclusion of fruits and vegetables, and of a range of probiotics.
