Pros: First and fifth ingredients are named meat products, manufacturer guarantees the use of ethoxyquin-free meat products
Cons: Minimum acceptable meat content, liberal use of fillers

The first ingredient in this food is a named meat product. However, it is chicken inclusive of its water content (about 80%) and once that is removed it is likely that this ingredient would be more accurately placed somewhat further down the ingredient list (ingredients are listed in order of weight). There is a further named meat product fifth on the ingredient list, this time in meal form. Whitefish is the 10th ingredient but this is too far down the ingredient list to make up a significant portion of the food. The manufacturer guarantees the use of ethoxyquin-free sources.

Oatmeal is a good grain and source of carbohydrates and B vitamins and is the second ingredient in the food. This is likely to be the primary ingredient. Ground barley is also a good quality grain. Rye flour, however, is a grain fragment and filler as is rice bran. Rice, in its whole form, is a high quality source of carbohydrates, protein and fibre. Tomato pomace is further filler. The food contains a range of vegetables, which is appreciated.

Overall, this food contains an adequate amount of meat, but is high in fillers. It is a senior dog food, but it is possible to reduce the calorie content of dog food without filling it up with indigestible and filler ingredients. The food contains no common allergens or other harmful ingredients.
