The first two ingredients in this food are named meat products, both in meal form.
The third and fourth ingredients are grain. Rice is a good quality grain and in its whole form is a high quality source of carbohydrates, protein and fibre. Corn, whilst a whole grain in this food, is problematic. Corn is difficult for dogs to digest and thought to be the cause of a great many allergy and yeast infection problems.
Naturox is a registered trademark that is an all natural free flowing antioxidant for use in the preservations of oils, fats, fat soluble vitamins, flavors, aromas, carotenoids and other oxygen-sensitive material. We prefer to see antioxidants supplied from natural ingredients rather than added as a supplement.
Barley and oats are good quality grains, high in carbohydrates and B vitamins. Liver digest is another low quality ingredient, however. The AAFCO definition of animal digest is “material which results from chemical and/or enzymatic hydrolysis of clean and undecomposed animal tissue.
The food contains a good range of probiotics.
Overall, we are happy with the amount of meat product in this food, and its use of whole grains. Ingredients are of mixed quality however, and the inclusion of low quality ingredients such as corn and digest prevent the food being accorded a higher rating. Due to the corn ingredients, we would not suggest feeding this food to dogs that suffer allergies.
