Pros:
Second ingredient is a named meat product.
Cons:
Insufficient meat products, fat as the fourth ingredient (a bloat risk factor for large breed dogs).
The primary ingredient in the food is rice (26%). Rice is a decent quality grain, but we believe that dog foods should be based on meat not on grains.
The second ingredient is a named meat product (lamb meal – 26%).
The remaining ingredients are all reasonable quality (though we are unsure what constitutes “lamb gravy” as this has no official definition). Preservative is mixed tocopherols.
It is a concern to see lamb fat as the fourth ingredient. Research at Purdue University has identified a fat in the top four ingredients of a dry dog food as a factor that increases the risk of bloat in large breed dogs. Smaller breeds are untested.
Our main concern with this food is the low quantity of meat products used (26%). Our view is that that is insufficient for a canine
