Pros: First and third ingredients are named meat products. Uses good quality ingredients with little filler.
Cons: Minimum sufficient meat content.

The first ingredient in the food is a named meat product, as is the third (although the latter is meat inclusive of water content, and likely to be present in very small quantity). There is a further meat ingredient 9th on the ingredient list, but this is too far down to make up a substantial portion of the food.

The main grains in the food are barley and oatmeal, both of which are decent quality. Rice is the 6th and 7th ingredients, but the rice bran form we consider to be filler. We appreciate the use of whole eggs in the food.

Overall this looks to be a good food, and with a higher meat content would have received a five star rating. Rice bran is the sole filler ingredient in the food, and this does not occur until 7th on the ingredient list, making it a minor portion of the food. The remaining ingredients are all good quality. Whole fruits and vegetables are included, though we would prefer to see these in greater quantities (replacing some grains) and would prefer the use of fresh vegetables than dried. This food has an appropriate calcium level for a puppy food. We note that the protein content is rather too high, however, and the food is also high in fat.
