Black Forest Canid Formula™ makes a wonderful BARF mixer formula for those who wish to add their own meat as it has higher levels of calcium (1.5%) in relation to phosphorous levels to balance the phosphorous of added meat and because it has high levels of EPA fatty acids. You may notice a very slight dark greenish tint to the kibble, do not be alarmed, it is the high levels of spirulina (spirulina is a very dark green, almost black) and fenugreek. We do not put vitamin K3 (menadione sodium bisulfate) in any of our formulas because of health risks to animals and rely instead on high levels of foods that are high in vitamin k1 such as alfalfa, kelp, oats, egg yolk, and liver. Recommendations: Allergies - Allergic, Maintenance, Obese, Mixer, (Puppy, Lactating, Working, Performance, if meat is added).

Pros: Good meat content, uses high quality whole ingredients throughout.
Cons:

There are five named meat products within the top eight ingredients of this food. The first two of these are meat inclusive of its water content (about 80%) and once that is removed it is likely that this ingredient would be more accurately placed somewhat further down the ingredient list (ingredients are listed in order of weight). The presence of three meat meal ingredients high on the list, gives us high onfidence in the amount of meat product in the food.

The major grain in the food is miller. This is a good quality grain that is easily digested and non-allergenic. Barley is further down the ingredient list, also a good quality whole grain. Flaxseed is an excellent source of Omega 6 and Omega 3 essential fatty acids. There is a good range of fruits/vegetables in the food, and a good range of probiotics.

Like all Timberwolf organics products, this one contains good quality ingredients throughout. It has an excellent meat content. The manufacturer warrants the use of 48-52% meat meal in their foods, which is certainly one of the highest around.
