Dakota Bison™ Canid Formula™ makes a wonderful BARF mixer formula for those who wish to add their own meat. We do not put vitamin K3 (menadione sodium bisulfate) in any of our formulas because of health risks to animals and rely instead on high levels of foods that are high in vitamin k1 such as alfalfa, kelp, oats, egg yolk, and liver. Recommendations: (All Life Stages; Puppy, Lactating, Working, Performance, if meat is added), Allergies - Allergic, Maintenance, Mixer.

Pros: Good meat content, uses good quality ingredients throughout.
Cons:

The first and second ingredients are named meat products. The first is bison inclusive of its water content (about 80%) and once that is removed it is likely that this ingredient would be more accurately placed somewhat further down the ingredient list (ingredients are listed in order of weight). The presence of a second meat ingredient next on the list, this time in meal form, gives us confidence in the amount of meat product in the food.

The main grain in the food is millet. This is a high quality grain that is easily digested and non-allergenic. This is followed by sweet potatoes, which are an excellent non-allergenic source of complex carbohydrates and antioxidants. Oats are another quality grain and a good source of carbohydrate energy and B vitamins. Flaxseed is fibre and an excellent source of Omega 6 and Omega 3 essential fatty acids. There is a good range of fruits/vegetables in the food, and a good range of probiotics.

Like all Timberwolf organics products, this one contains good quality ingredients throughout. It has a lower apparent meat content than some of the other formulas, but the manufacturer warrants the use of 48-52% meat meal in all their foods, which is certainly one of the highest around.
