The first ingredient in the food is a named meat product in meal form. There is a further meat meal ingredient in the food (fish meal) 6th on the ingredient list, which although a little distant does serve to increase our confidence in the amount of meat in the food. We note that the manufacturer does not claim to use ethoxyquin-free sources (ethoxyquin is a chemical preservative commonly added to fish destined for meal, and is believed to be carcinogenic).
Potato product is the main carbohydrate source. This is not a high quality ingredient, consisting of potato peelings, pieces and culls from potatoes processed for human consumption. It is largely filler. Millet is a good quality grain that is easily digested and low-allergenic. Barley and oatmeal are likewise decent quality grains.
We appreciate the use of a range of vegetables and probiotics in the food.
Overall, this looks to be a decent quality product. The meat content is at the lower end of what we would hope to see, however, and the main carbohydrate source in the food is not a high quality ingredient. Thus, while a 4-star rating was considered for this food due to its low-allergenic properties, our final analysis has the food rated with 3-stars. It is probably one of the better foods in this category.
