Pros: First and fifth ingredients are named meat products
Cons: Use of mixed quality ingredients

The first and fifth ingredients in the food are named meat products in meal form. We consider it likely that there is an acceptable amount of meat in the food. However, we note that the second of these meat ingredients is fish meal. The manufacturer does not appear to make any claim about the use of ethoxyquin-free ingredients (ethoxyquin is a chemical preservative commonly added to fish ingredients, but that is banned from use in human foods because it is believed to be carcinogenic).

The second and third ingredients are both forms of rice. Brown rice is a decent quality grain, but brewers rice is a waste product.

Poultry digest is a further low quality ingredient. It is "material which results from chemical and/or enzymatic hydrolysis of clean and undecomposed poultry tissue". We prefer to avoid foods with ingredients of uncertain origin ("poultry", "meat"): being of unidentifiable source, it is of unidentifiable quality.

The inclusion of a range of fruits and vegetables, as well as the use of whole eggs is appreciated.
