Pros:

first four ingredients are all named meat products.

Cons:
|
Uncertain meat content.

|
The first four ingredients in the food are all named meat products. All are meats inclusive of water content which, once removed as it must be to make a dry food, will leave these ingredients weighing around 20% of their original weight. It is thus likely that they would be more accurately placed further down the ingredient list.
The first meat meal ingredient is 7th on the list, following two grains. Despite the high number of individual meat ingredients, and noting that the manufacturer has "split" different forms of the same meats, we are unable to have high confidence in the overall meat content of the food.
There is a further meat meal ingredient 11th on the list, but this is too far down to make a substantive contribution to the overall meat content of the food. The ingredient is fish meal. We note that the manufacturer makes no claim to use ethoxyquin-free ingredients in the food (ethoxyquin is a chemical preservative commonly added to fish meal and that is banned from use in human foods because it is believed to be carcinogenic).
The main grains in the food are rice, barley and oatmeal, all of which are decent quality. We appreciate the inclusion of a range of fruits/vegetables and probiotics in the food.
