The first ingredient in this food is a meat meal, named by species'. It is unusual for high quality meat meals to be mixed source, and we retain some level of reservation over this ingredient. Chicken liver is a further meat ingredient 6th on the ingredient list, but is too far down to make any substantive contribution to the overall meat content of the food (and in any case, is an ingredient inclusive of water content which, once dehydrated, is likely to be an extremely minor ingredient)
The main grains in this product are wheat and maize (corn). Neither is a highly regarded ingredient: wheat is believed by many to be the leading cause of food allergies in dog food products, whilst corn is a difficult to digest grain of limited value and which is also commonly associated with allergies. Bread is a highly unusual ingredient in dog food products and this form of highly processed wheat (which may be a human food reject) is unlikely to add quality to the product.
Beet pulp is a controversial filler. It is a by-product, being dried residue from sugar beets which has been cleaned and extracted in the process of manufacturing sugar. It is a controversial ingredient in dog food, claimed by some manufacturers to be a good source of fibre, and derided by others as an ingredient added to slow down the transition of rancid animal fats and causing stress to kidney and liver in the process. We note that beet pulp is an ingredient that commonly causes problems for dogs, including allergies and ear infections, and prefer not to see it used in dog food. There are less controversial products around if additional fibre is required.
