Pros:
Second and third ingredients are named meat products
Cons:
Minimum acceptable meat content
The first ingredient in this food is sweet potatoes. It is followed by two named meat products, the first of which is meat inclusive of water content (around 80%). Once this is removed as it must be to create a dehydrated product, the ingredient will weigh about 20% of its wet weight. As ingredients are listed in weight order, it is thus unlikely that this is truely the first ingredient in the food, but would be more accurately placed further down the ingredient list. The third ingredient, in meal form, is likely the true first ingredient and primary meat product in the food. Fat content is canola oil, which although a single source oil is not agreed by all to be high quality. Fish ingredients and flaxseed aid Omega 3/6 OFA content. Potato fiber is filler.
Overall, this is a reasonable quality product though it appears to have a lower meat content than a prior version. It is a food aimed at dogs suffering allergies and with limited ingredients not commonly used in dog food products is one of the better allergy foods around. For those using the product for non-allergic dogs, supplementing the diet with meat would be beneficial.
