Pros:
First two ingredients are named meat products, primarily good quality ingredients
Cons:
Insufficient meat content
The first ingredient in this food is a named meat product. This is not a meat meal, being inclusive of water content (about 80%). Once this is removed, as it must be to create a dehydrated product, the ingredient will weigh around 20% of its wet weight. As ingredients are listed in order of weight, it is thus unlikely that this is truely the first ingredient in the food, but would be more accurately placed much further down the ingredient list as a minor ingredient in the food. The second ingredient is a meat meal ingredient, and the primary meat ingredient in the food. There is a further meat ingredient 8th on the ingredient list, but this is too far down to make any substantial contribution to the overall meat content of the food.
The main carbohydrate content of the food is potato, along with oatmeal, rice and barley in grains. These are all decent quality, but combined are likely to outweigh the meat content of the food by a significant margin. Tomato pomace is primarily filler, but the food contains some range of fruits and vegetables in the minor ingredients. We appreciate the use of whole eggs in the food, and the range of probiotics.
Overall, this product uses primarily good quality ingredients. A greater apparent meat content would be required for a higher rating, and users of this product might consider supplementing the diet with meat.
