Pros:
First ingredient is a named meat product, uses primarily good quality ingredients.
Cons:
Insufficient meat content.
The first ingredient in the food is a named meat product in meal form. This is the sole meat product in the food. We note that the manufacturer states that it does not add chemical preservatives to its products but does not specifically state that it uses ethoxyquin-free fish sources (ethoxyquin is a chemical preservative commonly added to fish destined for meal, and is believed to be carcinogenic). The manufacturer is only required to disclose preservatives it adds itself, not those added before receipt of ingredients.
The main grains are rice, oats and barley, all of which are good quality grains and low-allergenic sources of carbohydrates and additional protein. Potato is a good source of carbohydrate energy and B vitamins. There is a further potato ingredient third on the ingredient list, which is potato protein. This is a fraction and we consider it to be filler. Tomato pomace is the fibrous remains of juiced tomato (also filler).
Overall, the main concern with this food is low meat content. It appears to be a grain-heavy product.
