The first two ingredients in this food are named meat products, the second of which is in meal form. The first is inclusive of water content (about 80%). Once that is removed, as it must be to create a dehydrated product, the ingredient will weigh around 20% of its wet weight. It is thus likely that this dry ingredient may be more accurately placed much further down the ingredient list than its wet form (ingredients are listed in order of weight). Since the ingredient list is still headed by a meat meal ingredient, this does not cause considerable loss of confidence in the likely meat content of the food. We note that this is a fish meal ingredient but find no sign of a guarantee on the manufacturer website that the ingredient is purchased free of ethoxyquin (ethoxyquin is a chemical preservative, commonly added to fish meal ingredients, and which is banned or heavily regulated in human food production due to the belief that it is carcinogenic).
The main grains in the food are millet and rice, both of which are decent quality. Followed by barley and rice bran (the latter a grain fragment we consider primarily filler), the food starts to appear rather grain heavy. Tomato pomace is filler, but a minor ingredient in the food.
Canola and salmon oils replace animal fat in this food, which is generally a good thing. Not all agree, however, that canola is good quality. The food contains a range of fruits and vegetables.
Overall, the product appears to use primarily good quality ingredients, but meat content appears to be rather light and users might consider supplementing this diet with real meat.
