The Hi-Tor Neo Diet is specifically formulated for dogs requiring a low protein, restricted phosphorus diet to assist in management of renal disease. While this food is lower in protein and phosphorus, it has met the AAFCO Feeding Test requirements for adult maintenance.

Inadequate meat content, use of low quality grains, carcinogenic preservative.

This food receives a 1 star rating simply because there is nothing lower.
The primary ingredients in the food are grains (it should be meat!). Brewers rice is a low quality grain and by-product.
Corn is a problematic grain that is difficult for dogs to digest and thought to be the cause of a great many allergy and yeast infection problems. We prefer not to see this used in dog food.
Poultry fat is another ingredient of unidentified origin for which it is impossible to determine source or quality. Unidentified ingredients are usually very low quality. AAFCO define this as obtained from the tissues of poultry in the commercial processes of rendering or extracting. It consists predominantly of glyceride esters of fatty acids and contains no additions of free fatty acids. If an antioxidant is used, the common name or names must be indicated, followed by the words "used as a preservative". We also note that fat in the top four ingredients of a dry dog food has been identified by research at Purdue University as being a factor that increases the risk of bloat in large breed dogs. Smaller breeds are untested.
This food uses chemical preservatives (BHA) which is believed to be carcinogenic, and is banned from use in human food.
Poultry meal is a low quality meat product, for which the source in unidentifiable. It is the sole meat product in this food.
