Pros: Second and third ingredients are named meat products.
Cons: Grain heavy food, use of wheat.

The first ingredient in this food is a named meat product. However, it is chicken inclusive of water content, and once that it removed (as it must be to make kibble) the remaining ingredient will weigh approximately 20% of its wet weight. It is thus unlikely that this is the true first ingredient in the food, and would be more accurately placed much further down the ingredient list.

The second ingredient is wheat. The use of wheat is a significant negative as this is believed to be the number one cause of food allergy problems for dogs. We therefore would not recommend the use of this food for dogs that suffer allergy problems. The wheat is, at least, a whole grain however we believe that the major ingredient in any dog food should be meat.

Chicken meal is the third ingredient and major meat ingredient in the food. There is a second meat meal ingredient (salmon) 7th on the ingredient list but this is too far down to make up a substantive portion of the food.

Barley is the next ingredient, and we appreciate that this is also a whole grain. The fat content is provided by canola oil, and vegetables are carrots, spinach and tomatoes. We would prefer to see the use of whole eggs rather than egg product in this food.

The ingredient list for this food is incomplete, and thus the opinion provided must be taken in that context. However, the first 10 ingredients are sufficient to demonstrate that this food is high in grain content compared to meat. The ingredients used are primarily decent quality and the grains are at least whole (not fragments). However, wheat is the major ingredient and is likely to cause problems for dogs prone to allegies.
