Pros: First two ingredients are named meat products, uses primarily good quality ingredients

As in the original formula, there are two named meat products heading the ingredient list. The first of these is meat inclusive of its water content (about 80%) and once that is removed it is likely that this ingredient would be more accurately placed somewhat further down the ingredient list (ingredients are listed in order of weight). Since this is followed by a meat meal ingredient, we have some degree of confidence in the amount of meat product in the food.

The major grains in the food is are millet, rice and oat groats (replacing millet, sweet potatoes and oats). All are a good quality grains that are easily digested and non-allergenic and a good source of B vitamins and carbohydrates, however we prefered the original formulas use of sweet potatoes rather than additional grains. Flaxseed is an excellent source of Omega 6 and Omega 3 essential fatty acids. There is a good range of fruits/vegetables in the food, and a good range of probiotics.

We do note that the manufacturer retains on their website a statement that all formulas contain 48-52% meat meals. Overall, this product appears to be a slight downgrade from the original version but still good enough to retain its 5* rating.
