Pros: First three ingredients are named meat products, uses primarily good quality ingredients

As in the original formula, the first three ingredients in this food are named meat products. The second is chicken inclusive of its water content (about 80%) and once that is removed it is likely that this ingredient would be more accurately placed somewhat further down the ingredient list (ingredients are listed in order of weight). The presence of two meat ingredients next on the list, this time in meal form, gives us high confidence in the amount of meat product in the food. There is a further meat ingredient (salmon meal) 7th on the ingredient list but this is too far down to make up a substantive portion of the food.

The main grains in the food are rice, oat groats and barley. Rice is low-allergenic and a high quality source of carbohydrates and additional protein. Oats and barley are also a good quality grains. Flaxseed is fibre and an excellent source of Omega 6 and Omega 3 essential fatty acids. There is a good range of fruits/vegetables in the food, and a good range of probiotics.

We do note that the manufacturer retains on their website a statement that all formulas contain 48-52% meat meals. Overall, this product appears to be a very slight downgrade from the original version but retains its 5* rating.
