Pros:
Second and fourth ingredients are named meat products
Cons:
Insufficient meat content, fat of unidentifiable origin, mixed quality grains
The first ingredient in the food is rice. This is a decent quality grain, but it is still a grain which is not a natural foodstuff for a canine. Dog food products should be based on meat, not on grains. A further grain in the food is corn, which is of limited value in dog food. It is a difficult to digest grain and commonly associated with food allergies.
The second ingredient is a named meat product, in meal form. There is another meat meal product 4th on the ingredient list, but is not one named by species. This is a concern as it makes it impossible to identify the source, quality or consistency of the ingredient. Ingredients of unidentifiable source are usually very low quality, cheap ingredients and are not found in higher quality products.
Poultry fat is an ingredient of unidentified origin for which it is impossible to determine source or quality. Unidentified ingredients are usually very low quality. AAFCO define this as obtained from the tissues of poultry in the commercial processes of rendering or extracting. It consists predominantly of glyceride esters of fatty acids and contains no additions of free fatty acids. If an antioxidant is used, the common name or names must be indicated, followed by the words "used as a preservative". The product packaging indicates the use of naturally occuring preservatives. De-oiled grape seeds are filler (and we note that grapes are toxic to dogs).
Overall, this product suffers from limited meat content and the use of low quality fat ingredients for which it is impossible to determine the origin.
