The first ingredient in the food is a named meat product, in meal form. There is a further meat meal ingredient 7th on the ingredient list, but this is too far down to make a substantial contribution to the overall meat content of the food. It is a fish meal ingredient, but we find no guarantee on the manufacturers website that protein sources are ethoxyquin-free (ethoxyquin is a chemical preservative commonly added to fish destined for meal, and is believed to be carcinogenic).
The main grains are rice, oatmeal and barley. These are decent quality grains, but the food is looking rather grain heavy. There are no fruits/vegetables in the food and no probiotics. We appreciate the inclusion of whole eggs in the food.
