Ocean Blue™ Canid Formula™ makes a wonderful BARF mixer formula for those who wish to add their own meat. We do not put vitamin K3 (menadione sodium bisulfate) in any of our formulas because of health risks to animals and rely instead on high levels of foods that are high in vitamin k1 such as alfalfa, kelp, oats, egg yolk, and liver. Recommendations: (All Life Stages; Puppy, Lactating, Working, Performance, if meat is added), Allergies - Allergic, Maintenance, Mixer.

Pros: Good meat content, uses quality whole ingredients throughout.
Cons:

The first two ingredients in this food are named meat products. The second is salmon inclusive of its water content (about 80%) and once that is removed it is likely that this ingredient would be more accurately placed somewhat further down the ingredient list (ingredients are listed in order of weight). The presence of a meat meal ingredients first on the list, this time in meal form, gives us high onfidence in the amount of meat product in the food. It is not clear whether the manufacturer uses ethoxyquin-free meat sources (ethoxyquin is a chemical preservative commonly added to fish destined for meal, and is believed to be carcinogenic).

There are no grains amongst the major ingredients in this food. The main carbohydrate source is potatoes, which is a good source of carbohydrate and B vitamins. Fish oils are excellent source of Omega 6 and Omega 3 essential fatty acids. There is a good range of fruits/vegetables in the food, and a good range of probiotics.

Like all Timberwolf organics products, this one contains good quality ingredients throughout. It has an excellent meat content. The manufacturer warrants the use of 48-52% meat meal in their foods, which is certainly one of the highest around.
