The main ingredients in this food are grains. Rice is a good quality grain, but it is still a grain and this is an unnatural foodstuff for canines. Dog foods should be based on meat.
The meat content of this food includes byproducts. It is impossible to ascertain the quality of by-products and these are usually products that are of such low quality as to be rejected for use in the human food chain, or else are those parts that have so little value that they cannot be used elsewhere in either the human or pet food industries. Chicken by-products are the non-rendered, clean parts of the carcass of slaughtered poultry, such as necks, feet, undeveloped eggs and intestines, exclusive of feathers, except in such amounts as might occur unavoidable in good processing practice. Being organic does not compensate for quality. Note that the meat ingredients in this food are stated as 25%, but this is according to wet weight. Once the water content (about 80%) is removed, as it must be to create a dehydrated product, the ingredient will weigh around 20% of its wet weight. Ingredients are listed in order of weight and once dehydrated, the ingredient will comprise a much lower proportion of the food.
TThe food has added vitamins and minerals, but no information about these is given and it may contain synthetics. Likewise, the preservative is undisclosed and may be chemical preservatives such as ethoxyquin, BHT and BHA which are allowed in pet products but are banned or heavily regulated in human food due to the belief that they are carcinogenic.
