The first ingredient in this food is a named meat product in meal form. This is the sole meat product in the food.
This is followed by several low quality grains. Brewers rice is a low quality waste product. Wheat shorts consists of fine bran particles, germ and a small portion of floury endosperm particles as separated in the usual processes of commercial flour milling. Wheat is an ingredient we prefer not to see used in dog food as it is a leading cause of allergies for dogs. Wheat occurs a second time as wheat flour.
Corn gluten meal is a further waste product, and another common cause of allergy problems. It's definition is "the dried residue from corn after the removal of the larger part of the starch and germ, and the separation of the bran by the process employed in the wet milling manufacture of corn starch or syrup, or by enzymatic treatment of the endosperm". In plain English, that which remains after all the nutritious bits have been removed. Corn also appears a second time on the ingredient list as ground corn. This is a difficult to digest ingredient for many dogs.
