The first ingredient in the food is maize (corn). Corn is a low quality grain for use in dog food, being difficult to digest and a common cause of allergy problems. Moreover, the leading ingredient in any dog food should be meat, not cereal.
The second ingredient is a named meat product in meal form. This accounts for only 18% of the total food and is the sole meat product in the food. Sugar beet molasses adds unnecessary sugar to the food, and is likely to contribute to yeast infections in dogs prone to those.
Poultry fat is a further low quality ingredient for which it is impossible to determine the source. Unidentified ingredients are usually very low quality. AAFCO define this as "obtained from the tissues of poultry in the commercial processes of rendering or extracting. It consists predominantly of glyceride esters of fatty acids and contains no additions of free fatty acids. If an antioxidant is used, the common name or names must be indicated, followed by the words "used as a preservative".
